INTRODUCTION

Thank you for participating in this study. My name is Rahimeh Gharibpour, and I am a Master's student at the Geoinformatics department of the University of Salzburg.

For my Master's thesis, I am studying the use-cases and limitations of webcam-based cartography. This study involves a cartographic user experiment designed to test the memorability of the road network and hydrographic landmarks on Google navigation maps, consisting of three sets of tasks (blocks), in total 30 map stimuli. The structure of the blocks is as follows:

Each experimental block will start with a training task to familiarize yourself with the experiment and to ensure you understand the map tasks correctly. Afterward, you will be presented with the main tasks for each of the three blocks. The experiment will last approximately 15 minutes.

Throughout the experiment, your eye movements will be recorded based on the face images obtained from the camera of your computer and the calibration process. Therefore, the eye-tracker will be calibrated at the beginning of the session, with a maximum of three attempts.

Please follow these guidelines prior to the experiment:

After the test, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to help me understand your background. Your biometric and demographic data will be aggregated and processed anonymously. Please note that:

As a final note, I kindly request each participant to review and sign this document, which grants permission to record and utilize their eye-movement data exclusively for scientific research purposes. By checking the box below, you confirm that you understand this information and freely consent to participate in this study.
